What Size Flag?

Outdoor flag attached to structures

For a pole 5' to 8' that attaches to a structure, we recommend a 3'x5' flag.

The biggest factor in hanging these flags is that you don't want the flag to touch anything
(ie: bushes, trees, gutters, siding, door knobs, etc.) when it flies. Any object continually contacting your flag will result in premature wear and tear, shortening its lifespan.

The most common way to size your flag is by the height of the pole. The length of the flag should be at least 1/4 the height but not more than 1/2 the overall flag pole height.

The chart below is just a guide. The correct size flag for your pole is one that is both visually appealing and practical.

Flying multiple flags on the same pole and flying your American flag at half-staff are a couple things to consider when choosing your flag size.
